Deadlines for Health Insurance in 2015

2015 Health Insurance Deadlines

The deadline to enroll in health insurance for 2015 through open enrollment is February 15th. If you do not sign up for coverage before open enrollment is over, you will be left without coverage and will face heavier fines than 2014. To ensure that you enroll in the right policy for your needs, keep these common health insurance questions and answers in mind.

  • What should I do if I already have a policy from the first enrollment period? If you signed up for health insurance coverage during the last open enrollment period, you will most likely be re-enrolled in the same policy for 2015. Make sure to check your policy to ensure that it is still available for renewal.
  • Should I opt for automatic re-enrollment? Before you automatically re-enroll in your same policy, make sure to update your personal information in your marketplace account and look at all the other policies that are available to you for 2015. A different plan may be able to offer you better coverage for a lower price, since many policies are changing for 2015.

With less than a month left to enroll in a policy, it is important to take the time to talk with a health insurance provider to ensure that you invest in the right amount of coverage. If you do not enroll in coverage, you will have to pay heavy penalties. The fine for not having health insurance in 2015 is either 2 percent of your yearly household income or $325 per adult and $162.50 per child in your household, whichever amount is more.
