Individual people are not the only ones that had to deal with health benefit changes due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The entire benefits industry and employers also had to learn and grow with the changing rules and regulations. The 12th Annual U.S. Employee Benefit Trends Study released by MetLife helps to show evolving trends and important issues within the benefits industry for the 2013 year.
One of the most important findings in the study showed that more employees are satisfied with the different benefits that they receive at work. The amount of employees who are satisfied is at the highest percentage in 11 years. The study also showed that the benefits that were offered by their current employer were one of the main reasons they joined the company or decided to stay with them.
The increased satisfaction with their benefits has created a new trend of employees covering more of the cost of their benefits. Unlike in the past when employers paid for most of or all the cost of benefits, employees are now more comfortable than ever to pay for part of their benefits, as long as they have choices. However, employees also admit that they need more help to understand how their benefits work, and how they will meet their specific needs.
There is also good news for employers who offer benefits to their employees. Employees who are satisfied with their benefits not only report being more loyal to the company, but they also report being more satisfied with their job and would recommend their company as a great place to work.
